Kentucky witnessed a proud moment when, the Everly brothers, Don and Phil, debuted on February 1, 1937 and January 19. 1939, respectively, when they were born to proud parents Ike and Margaret Everly. Don was born in Brownie, a mining town, which is located in Northern Muhlenberg County. Then, after two years, Phil arrived in Chicago Illinois. The years passed by, and they added immensely to the variety of rock n’ roll. The Ike Everly family abandoned Muhlenberg County, the reason being cessation of mining and they moved to Chicago. This was where they had to live their dream, where Ike could finally follow his desired career. Thereafter, after Phil’s birth, the family shifted to Shenandoah, Iowa, where Don and Phil, along with their parents Ike and Margaret performed on the Midwest radio stations. Ike had a strange love for the south and the desire for a larger audience, and thus the family moved with bag and baggage to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1953.here they started to make $90 per week, by having two shows performed daily. Both the brothers shared the same aim of becoming even more skilled on the guitar, and learning new chords. It was then that Ike and Margaret returned to Illinois, because their contract was cancelled in Knoxville. Here, for a living, Margaret worked as a beautician, and Ike worked as a barber. In this process, the brothers ended up living in Nashville. Here, they met Archie Bleyer, who gave them a contract for Cadence Records in 1957. They never forgot their native city, and thus returned to Kentucky especially on Labor Day weekend, for about 14 years. Don and Phil will be eternally remembered as the best rock n’ roll performers. |
